Covid updates: India logs 2,09,918 new Covid cases, 959 deaths in last 24 hours
India reported 2,09,918 new Covid-19 cases and 959 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry's updated data on Monday.
The Health Ministry report said that the active Kovid-19 cases in the country decreased by 53,669 to 18,31,268.

India reported 2.09 lakh new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which is significantly less than Sunday's 2.34 lakh infections. The active case load now stands at 18,31,268 while the recovery rate has marginally increased to 94.37 per cent.
The weekly and daily positivity rates are 15.77 and 15.75 per cent respectively. The daily and weekly positivity rates on Sunday stood at 14.5 per cent and 16.4 per cent respectively.
The Election Commission will meet on Monday to assess the COVID-19 situation in the five poll-bound states and decide whether to continue with the ban on rallies. The commission can also decide whether political parties and candidates can be given new exemptions in the conduct of election campaigns. While announcing the election schedule for Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur till January 31, the Election Commission had banned physical rallies and road shows.
Officials said that beneficiaries in the age group of 15 to 18 years will start receiving the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine from Monday. The campaign to vaccinate adolescents in this age group began on January 3. Delhi has around 10.14 lakh beneficiaries across age groups. As of Saturday, 8,04,690 beneficiaries

Karnataka recorded 28,264 new Covid-19 cases and 68 deaths on Sunday. According to the Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Department, 28,264 cases were reported in the state, taking the total active cases to 2,51,084. Bengaluru Urban recorded 11,938 new cases and 14 deaths, Mysore reported 2,322 new Covid 19 cases and 10 deaths and Dharwad reported 1,356 new cases and one death.
In another development, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday hit back at Congress leader Siddaramaiah after the latter criticised the state government for "failing to fulfil even a single promise made in the BJP manifesto of 2018." Bommai said, “We are aware of our responsibilities. We have started many programs for the welfare of the people. Don't try to find fault where there is no mistake."
