Delhi heavy rainfall disrupts power and brings chaos in city
New Delhi: Delhi heavy rainfall has affected many city areas today. Traffic jams and delayed flight operations can be seen at Indira Gandhi Airport (IGI). The combination of heavy rainfall with a thunderstorm in Delhi have also created chaos for people in the city.
House windows broke and trees got uprooted in some parts of the national capital and roadblock were also reported in some major parts of the city. Several parts of the national capital region witnessed waterlogging due to Delhi heavy rainfall, which impacted flights to stop the operations temporarily. Due to a dust storm in Delhi, many fallen and uprooted trees made a roadblock which created frustration in the people.
There is a saying that, something beneficial comes out of even something bad. With Delhi heavy rainfall, a huge drop of 19 degrees in temperature was measured. As in 2022, summers have introduced themselves earlier and people have to face even 45 degrees of heat in the month of April and May. But heavy rainfall in Delhi gave relief to the people fighting the heatwaves. A drastic fall in temperature was recorded at 17.2 degrees which is the minimum temperature for today May 23.
The prediction of Indian Meteorological Department estimated the wind speed between 70-90 kph along with thunderstorms. Considering the situation air traffic department requested passengers to stay in touch with authorities for flight updates. @Delhiairport authority tweeted #badweather #rain to make aware of the changes in flight timings and delays. Approximately 100 flights were witnessed delayed and several others were diverted at the international airport in the national capital. Another issue Delhi's heavy rainfall brought was Power outages were reported in parts of Delhi-NCR. Delhi never had any shortage of power but storms and heavy rainfall in Delhi created havoc. Power crises happened all due to sudden weather changes and storms in Delhi.
